The design of the ground was prepared by three reputable architects, including Cawkwell, Hadfield, and Davidson. Since its opening, the ground has undergone a few minor changes, and currently, its capacity is 6, people, including seats located in the South Stand. Tom Bellamy Barnsley 31st October This would be the third time I have been to the Pirelli Stadium in the last three seasons, with both the previous games ending in goalless draws. I thought we were overdue for a few goals but didn't expect the final result ending like it did. Burton Albion is a very easy ground to get to by going down the M1, then the A38 towards Derby, and finally the A straight to the ground and the journey taking just 1 hour 20 minutes. I parked very near the ground on a grass verge at the roadside right on the main road and ready for an easy getaway.

Although I noticed many home and away fans in the Beech Pub near the ground I made my way to the Stadium and had a drink inside. I have always enjoyed going to this ground. It's nice and compact with very good facilities. The Barnsley fans could choose to either stand behind the away goals or sit down in the main stand adjacent to the away end.

I chose the comfortable option of a seat. The game began with Burton causing all sorts of problems in the Barnsley defence, but they couldn't make it count and it was Barnsley who opened the scoring with a goal against the run of play by Isgrove finishing off a good move. The lead didn't last long as Burton themselves equalised with a well-taken header at the other end. Yet again Barnsley scored from a breakaway making it only to be cancelled out when Burton made it before half time with a good finish after a good build up.

The second half really opened up with Barnsley pressing the Burton defence and were rewarded with a great 25 yard goal from Joe Williams. The game was finally put to bed when Barnes scored the fourth Barnsley goal when scoring from an acute angle. Final score to Barnsley. Comment on getting away from the ground after the game:.

Summary of overall thoughts of the day out:. Obviously very pleased with the result, and a well earned three points, which kept the Reds in 19th place in the league, and Burton just one place from the bottom of the table. John Hague Barnsley 31st October Another new ground and only an hour from work. A friendly pub that welcomed away fans. After a pint it was off to get photos of the ground and some of the fabled faggots and peas.

I like the Pirelli, a tidy ground with four corner floodlights. Ok the floodlights are on thin pylons but hey, you can't have it all. Once inside it seems more like a good non-league ground and I mean no disrespect. It's good to still have terracing and I think the Barnsley fans appreciated it. Let me start with the faggots and peas… frankly I was very disappointed.

They had the texture of Campbell's Meatballs. Not everything retro is a good idea. Peas were okay but no gravy and no mint sauce is a crime. Stewards were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was about right for the position both clubs find themselves in and was a bit flat.

The game? Some non-league defending to go with the stadium. Barnsley were a class above Burton but played some seriously brainless football at times. The introduction of Tom Bradshaw and George Moncur finally allowed Barnsley to make their quality, just about, count. The scoreline really didn't flatter them… they should have been out of sight at half-time. I enjoyed my night out. I won't pay your prices anymore.

Axel Patsch Neutral 9th December A stadium in the Championship League with terracing is a rarity these days. Burton Albion only arrived in professional football a few years ago. We found it interesting to see how a small club with such a small ground is able to compete against all the big players with their oligarchs and sheikhs in the background. We flew to East Midlands Airport and rented a car. The Pirelli Stadium is located on the main road to Burton town centre and cannot be missed.

We parked in the car park behind the ground. Before the game we took the tour through the National Brewery Centre. After that, we had a bite to eat and a few samples of the local beers in the attached Brewery Tab pub.

The Brewery Centre is located on the way between the town centre and the Pirelli Stadium and should be a must visit for all lovers of beer and football. It is hard to believe that a club with this size of a ground can compete in England's second highest league. It is not impressive, but for a change it was nice to see some proper floodlights again and now countless stairs to reach your seat. Burton are struggling and it looks like they are facing relegation in their third year in the Championship.

It was fairly quiet, not a lot of home support but although the team lost again, you got the feeling that the crowd are aware about their situation and appreciate the effort and what they have achieved so far.

After the game the players waved to the crowd and was awarded with applause, no booing or anything like that. Due to the limited amount of spectators there are no long queues in front of the toilets or the food outlets. Besides the usual chips and pies the you could get faggot and mushy peas not everyone's favourite though. And in the home of Marmite we had a warm Marmite drink which helped a bit keep out the cold.

On the way to the ticket window, we met a nice elderly guy who had two spare tickets because his friends could not make it and he insisted to give us those tickets for free. During the game, he gave us some insight to the club and its history and also mentioned that at the end of the season the exception for the standing room would be due and in the unlikely case that they manage to avoid relegation they would have to install seats which would further decrease the capacity of the ground.

The club does not have a long tradition and their capabilities are limited but it seems like the people enjoy the adventure of playing in the Championship. Since there are no real traditional rivalries and everything is so small it really feels warm and cosy, like a big family.

We really enjoyed our day in Burton and no matter in which league they are going to play in the future we wish the club and it's supporters all the best. Joe Dack Norwich City 30th December The journey from Norfolk was very easy with no hold ups. We parked at the nearby Eton Park School school which is a five minute walk from the ground via a footpath. When we got to the stadium we then saw that there were actually still plenty of spaces but getting away was easier from the school. We walked around the ground prior to going in and went into the small club shop.

Smaller grounds seem to have a bit more character to me though. Burton got the ball forward quickly hoping to get knock downs around the penalty area and the game finished up as a very long head tennis competition.

Both teams were probably happy with a point in the end. No problems, traffic was obviously a bit slow, I think if you park at the ground it may take a bit longer but with an attendance of less than 6, everyone gets away in decent time I would think. I would recommend Burton, you have to admire them and give credit to their supporters as it must be difficult to compete at this level financially and having Derby County and Nottingham Forest are just up the road.

Joseph Burns Nottingham Forest 17th February This was my first visit to the Pirelli Stadium so I was looking forward to visiting a new ground having heard nothing but good things about Burton as an away day.

Living in Birmingham the journey was a simple 20 minute train journey from New Street. Once in Burton we got a taxi from the town centre to a pub near the ground. I met up with a few people, a mixture of Burton and Forest fans and we went into the town centre and drank in a great pub called The Dog. Loads of real ales available and a good atmosphere with home and away fans mingling with no trouble.

Home fans were friendly and welcoming. After that we got a taxi to the Great Northern pub which is a five minute walk from the Pirelli Stadium. Again there was a mix of supporters and the atmosphere was good. It's not until you see the ground that you realise just how small it is and how far Burton have come.

A club of this size playing Championship football has to be one of the great footballing stories. There are stewards at the turnstiles who perform a quick search before you go in. Once in there's a bar just for the away fans and a food kiosk.

Standing on a terrace might have some nostalgic romance about it but I felt there were a few too many people on it and it was pretty cramped. Stewards did their best to get everyone in, but in the end supporters were standing on the stairs and even on the concourse at the back of the stand. Having said that I moved to a different part of the terrace for the second half and it was a bit better. The rest of the ground is very compact but pretty smart looking with the seated main stand looking particularly good.

As expected with two out-of-form teams the match was completely forgettable. As soon as Forest's Eric Lichaj was sent off the game looked destined to be a draw.

Neither team created much but Burton could've nicked it at the end. The atmosphere in the ground was very subdued, Forest fans made some noise but the home fans were very quiet.

Stewards were friendly and did a good job. Easy to get away, because the ground capacity is so small there was little congestion and we headed back into Burton and went to a couple more pubs; The Bridge Inn and the Fuggle and Nugget. After that I stopped for a quick pint at the Roebuck near the station and then was on the 7pm train back to Brum. I was looking forward to visiting Burton and it didn't disappoint apart from the actual game!

Make a day of it, Burton is a great place to visit with loads of great pubs and friendly fans. The away stand does get a bit cramped if it's sold out but I would definitely do it again next time Forest play them. Brian Moore Millwall 24th February Another nice easy trip for me living in Birmingham and on the back of three consecutive away wins, hopes were high!

A short hop on the train and eventually a five pound cab ride from the pub to the ground, otherwise the Pirelli Stadium is a good twenty minute walk from Burton Railway Station. A short walk from the station, brings you to the Oak and Ivy pub turn left out of the station and then second left into Wellington Street. Really good Marstons beer and cheap cobs after the game too!

Without wishing to be patronising, the Pirelli Stadiums is a nice newish "non-league" stadium, so a big well done to Burton for being where they are. The away end is a terrace and all very neat and tidy.

Not a great game but when you are winning the Gods seem to be with you and a little lucky to come away with another away win. The stewards were fine, the atmosphere okay, although no "edge" as such. The facilities were woefully inadequate for a full terrace so time food and comfort breaks accordingly! Easy to get away with lots of taxis zipping up and down hoping for a fare which they found! Back in the pub for 5. Bobbie Millwall 24th February I was looking forward to this day as I have never been to Burton before.

And with the Pirelli Stadium being a smaller ground I was also looking forward to being really close to the pitch. I travelled by train from London Euston which took just over two hours. However, with a few hundred away fans getting off the train it was fun. As you come out of the station turn left, cross over the other side at the traffic lights and then turn right. Before the game, we were escorted by the Police to the Beech Inn pub which is about five minutes walk from the ground.

The pub was for away fans only and it had additional tents outside serving food and drinks. Although Burton is not a big stadium, I did really like seeing this small ground. The away end was bit weird, although the terrace was undercover the refreshment areas were outside in the open. Although there was one small indoor bar situated behind the stand.

However, it was really busy with around 1, Millwall fans in attendance. The Millwall fans made brilliant atmosphere but I was bit disappointed on the Burton atmosphere only heard them once or twice when they came close.

Getting away from the ground was no problem. Most of the away fans walked out about ten minutes after the game had finished, by which time most of the Burton fans had already gone. Overall a brilliant win and I will return to the Pirelli Stadium if we play each other again.

Alex Hendrikson Sunderland 15th September Very much so. Tickets in the away end were at a premium so we counted ourselves lucky to be attending. It was my first trip to Burton-on-Trent and the first time I would be viewing a Sunderland match from terracing in over twenty years. On the last occasion, a Tony Adams own goal and a red card for Dennis Bergkamp helped us on our way to a win over Arsenal at Roker Park.

I took this as a positive omen and coupled with our positive start to the season, my expectations were high as far as the match itself went.

Very easy — a straightforward half hour's walk from the Burton Railway Station to the Pirelli Stadium or a quick taxi journey. However, my arbitrarily applied 'no drink before the match' rule meant I was unable to go to any of them. Instead, we took a taxi to Claymills Victorian Pumping Station — a nearby industrial heritage site. A knowledgable and welcoming volunteer took us on an extensive tour of the site as we marvelled at the craft and invention of Victorian era engineering.

Just a fifteen minute walk from the ground and I would recommend to anyone looking for something to do, other than the pub. My f irst impression was — St Mirren Park only with terracing. On entering the away end I was struck by the difference in modern terracing — for example the banking seemed a lot steeper.

Initially disorientated without the usual allocated seat, we picked a good spot behind the single line of crush barriers running across the stand, with a fine view of the pitch.

Overall the ground was modern and compact, if, as with so many modern stadia, a little soulless. From our perspective the game was best forgotten as we were deservedly beaten The away fans made a bit of noise without much to shout about.

A minor distraction was a bunch of yer da' types just behind me who seemed preoccupied checking inconsequential results from other divisions on their mobile phones at critical points in the game. The home fans seemed happy enough, without getting up in our grill about it.

A very quick exit and getaway towards the railway station. We had time to stop off at Sainsbury's for the obligatory train cans. Yaz Shah Bristol Rovers 13th October Nothing as got there so late. The Pirelli Stadium is a nice but small ground. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out: A nice sunny day.

Peter Bristol Rovers 13th October The journey was easy, although the town centre was difficult. If you are coming from the South or East, I would suggest you avoid the traffic by going North on the A38 then doubling back on yourself on the A It also shows Sky Sports. It was then less than a ten minute walk to the ground.

The Pirelli Stadium is a nice, tidy, modern ground. I had booked a seat early, so I was allocated Number 8 in the first row. This seat was in line with the posts supporting the goal nets! It was even worse for the people in seats 1 to 7! I am surprised the Football League permit such poor views for away supporters, the home terracing started in line with the six yard line. If the seating had been allocated from the opposite end then only if there was a capacity crowd would these seats be allocated.

Fortunately, I was able to move to a decent seat after kick off. For such a small ground this should not be necessary. Andy Newman Neutral 27th November My son was working in the press area, I offered him a lift to the ground and decided to stay and watch the game. We only live in Derby which is a short drive down the A38, never a problem with parking, I left my car on a grass verge! I stood with the Charlton fans, they made a lot of noise and got behind their team all through the game.

Burton took the lead with a 'soft' penalty, Charlton soon equalised with another penalty and scored a late winner pretty much against the run of play. The stewards were very friendly, I had a hot chocolate at half time but no food. I enjoyed the game as both teams were trying to play good football not always achieving it I would recommend away fans visiting as there is no hassle at all.

Graham Andrew Plymouth Argyle 5th December My team need all the support they can get at the moment as they fight a relegation battle.

Comment on getting away from the ground after the game: Easy to get away from where we parked. Summary of overall thoughts of the day out: I was happy with a point. David Crossfield Barnsley 6th April Barnsley were hanging on to second place in the League on the back of a 20 match unbeaten run, with Sunderland and Portsmouth in pursuit.

It's an easy journey to Burton by train and there is a great selection of real ale pubs. I've been to the Pirelli Stadium three times before and usually enjoy the opportunity to stand up behind the goals. However, we were in hospitality this time as my friend would have struggled to get a ticket.

Barnsley sold there full allocation. My journey was easy by train. The We met at the station and went to. We then got a rather expensive taxi to the ground as we needed to get to the hospitality around It's a small neat modern stadium but without much character.

The hospitality area is bright, modern and quite impressive. Being purpose built, it's much better than the add on facilities I've experienced at Wimbledon and Accrington Stanley. You could watch the game from inside the hospitality suite if you stood by the big windows.

I chose to take up my seat outside, which had a good view of the pitch. The Brewers won the match 2—1, in a match organised for the stadium's official opening, which attracted 6, people. The lowest attendance at the stadium for any competitive match was set on 4 November for a Conference League Cup match against Kidderminster Harriers , which attracted a mere people.

Car parking is available adjacent to the ground with spaces available for vehicles, with space for further vehicles available at the Rykneld Trading Estate on Derby Road. The club was forced to appease residents of nearby Stretton by allocating no-parking zones on surrounding roads around the ground following congestion concerns as a result of roadside parking. Burton-on-Trent railway station is served by local services operated by CrossCountry towards Derby , Nottingham and Birmingham , with further connections available, however it is located over a mile and a half away from the stadium.

Arriva Midlands and Trent Barton operates bus services from the stadium towards the town centre and also towards Derby. Since the stadium's construction stages, plans have existed for further facilities to be built as part of the stadium complex.

These include plans for a pub and room hotel development in undeveloped land adjacent to the club's car park, as well as a bowls green and pavilion.

Whilst the club have obtained planning permission for these projects, the spiralling costs of construction of the stadium has led to the projects being shelved. The training pitch on the complex that had been submitted as part of planning proposals, originally intended to be used for club training and community purposes, has also not yet been built, due to ongoing developments at the St.

George's Park complex in Rangemore allowing the Brewers to use it as their current training ground for the foreseeable future.
